The city of Sioux Falls continues to become more culturally and socially diverse. Here we celebrate and embrace our differences. Every summer at the Festival of Cultures people come together to experience the vast variety of Sioux Falls residents. From 1990-1998, Sioux Falls foreign-born population increased 125percent making it one of the fastest changing metro areas in the nations. Its now home to residents speaking more than 60 native languages and dialects.
We also celebrate our Native American and European ancestry. South Dakota is home to the Great Sioux Nation and as you wander around the city those Native American roots are evident. You will also clearly see our German, Scandinavian and Irish influences with annual celebrations like German Fest, Nordland Fest and Irish Fest.
The increase in cultures has also spawned a boom in ethnic specialty shops and restaurants around Sioux Falls. Here you can experience the cuisine and products from Bosnia, Vietnam, Japan, Eastern Europe, India, Ethiopia, South America and many more places around the world.
